Our Practice

What Sets Us Apart?
Thank you for choosing our office for your root canal therapy. Please take a minute to read the guidelines below and contact us with any questions.
- No eating or drinking hot liquids for the first 2-3 hours following your treatment. This is to allow the temporary filling sufficient time to fully set and prevents biting/burning yourself while you're still numb.
-
Do not eat, chew or bite on the side that was worked on until you get a permanent restoration. The tooth may be at an increased risk of fracture if you use it to eat before restoring it. Avoid harder substances such as nuts, hard candy, granola bars, etc.
-
Your treatment is not finished! You need to see your restorative dentist within a month after completing treatment to have a permanent crown or restoration placed. A record of your treatment will be sent to your dentist. Waiting longer than 4 weeks increases the chance that your tooth may fracture or become reinfected.
-
It is normal to feel discomfort for 2-4 days following root canal therapy. In some cases, the tooth and surrounding tissue may be sore for a few weeks following treatment.
-
For relief of soreness and pain take:
-
Take 600mg of Ibuprofen (Please Read Label On Bottle) as needed every 6 hours.
-
For additional pain relief, you may add 2 Tylenol (1000mg) as needed for pain. It is a safe and effective combination. Do not exceed 2,000 mg per 24 hour period.
-
Do not use any medication that your physician, pharmacist, etc. has advised you not to take. Continue to take all other medications prescribed by your medical doctor according to instructions.
-
If additional medications are prescribed, begin to take them immediately as prescribed. Immediately stop using any drug that causes stomach upset or allergic reactions (including hives, rash, facial swelling, asthma or wheezing). Seek immediate medical attention if any complications arise.
This section is very important, please read carefully:
While flare-ups are rare, they occur in about 5% of cases and may cause significant pain. They generally only occur with teeth that are extremely irritated and/or infected. These sometimes occur randomly, even on patients that have had root canals done in the past without problems. If you have a flare-up, you may experience moderate to severe pain, swelling, throbbing, or severe discomfort; please contact our office at 718-833-2880. If you contact us after hours, please leave a message. We check our voicemail regularly and someone will get back to you. You may be prescribed additional medication such as antibiotics, and/or you may be asked to come to the office for further treatment.
